After a 26-day long wait, the arrested teachers and students of the Manipur University have been unconditionally released from Centrail Jail, due to lack of proper evidence into the case filed by former Vice Chancellor in-charge Professor Yugindro Singh.

The development comes following an order issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal West.

The order mentions the closure of the case following the withdrawal of the FIR filed by Professor Yugindro Singh alleging the teachers and students of manhandling him on September 20.

It may be mentioned that Yugindro Singh had admitted during a meeting with Manipur Governor of filing a false FIR against the university students and teachers.

Subsequently, The Manipur High Court had suspended Professor Yugindro Singh and appointed former Manipur Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh as the Varsity’s new administrator.

Meanwhile, police authorities in Manipur have admitted their mistake of handcuffing detained university Professor Dorendra while taking him to hospital for a medical check-up.
