"Our young population represents a significant portion of our community, and we must create more avenues for employment to meet their needs," said Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

In a bid to bridge the employment gap by offering global opportunities to the state’s workforce, the Meghalaya government today organised a job fair in Shillong aimed at connecting skilled workers with overseas employment opportunities.

Health Minister, M Ampareen Lyngdoh who attended the job fair as the Chief Guest pointed out the urgent need for expanded job opportunities within the state, citing a range of challenges faced by the state’s youth.

She said, “A significant 37% of Meghalaya’s population is under the age of 35. Our young population represents a significant portion of our community, and it is essential that we create more avenues for employment to meet their needs.”

The job fair, held at the State Convention Centre, was organized by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) and drew a significant number of young participants.

When asked about her opinion on lack of industries and companies coming to Shillong, Minister Lyngdoh expressed optimism for future growth.

She emphasized that civil society will evolve over time, acknowledging a current tendency towards isolation. However, she noted that times are changing, and younger generations are more open to new experiences compared to the past.

The Minister referenced how studying in other states, once uncommon, is now a regular practice, reflecting a shift in mindset.

She believes that with time, Meghalaya will progress and overcome the scepticism that still exists in many areas.
