In a significant drive against narcotics, at least three drug traffickers were arrested with Yaba tablets valued at over Rs 2.5 crore at the Durga Chowmuhani checkpoint under Kamalpur Police Station on National Highway 8.
The arrest was confirmed by a senior police official from the Kamalpur sub-division in Tripura’s Dhalai district.
According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Kamalpur sub-division Samudra Debbarma, the incident occurred around 2:30 AM during the intervening night between Friday and Saturday.
A luxury vehicle bearing the registration number TR 04 BV-0629 approached the checkpoint. Upon inspection, officers found 91,200 Yaba tablets stored in secret pockets in the dashboard of the car in 456 packets.
The operation was conducted in the presence of SDPO Debbarma, Officer-in-Charge Sanjay Laskar, Executive Magistrate Amrit Chakma, and witnesses, ensuring the integrity of the investigation.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Liton Mia, Saminul Islam, and Jahir Hossain.
All three were immediately taken into custody and transported to the police station for further interrogation.
The vehicle, reportedly traveling from Kumarghat, was also seized as part of the investigation.
This marks the third successful anti-drug trafficking operation by the Kamalpur Police within the past month, highlighting the growing challenge of drug smuggling in the region.
Authorities have intensified their efforts to curb the illegal narcotics trade across Tripura’s borders.
