Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that the current political unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh will not impact India’s access to the country’s waterways. Speaking at an interactive session at the Assam Tribune Dialogues 2024 event, Sonowal said that there is no fear of losing out the access waterways via Bangladesh to the Bay of Bengal and the accords that have been signed so far would be preserved by both sides.

While refering to the recent move by the Bangladeshi interim government to review the pacts signed between the two countries under former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sonowal said that the Bangladeshi authorities will honour and uphold the treaties that were signed and India will have no issues in accessing the waterways especially the Chittagong port.
