DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Announces Projects Worth Rs 400 Crores for Sikkim

In a big boost to all round development of the Himalayan state of Sikkim that was devastated by a glacial lake outburst and by floods and landslides, Jyortiraditya Scindia, Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has announced Rs 400 crores for various projects to be implemented in the state.
DoNER Minister Scindia, who was on a two-day visit to Sikkim, met Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang earlier today and discussed several key issues including the growth and development of the state during the two and half hour long meeting.
The Union Minister also announced the approval of Rs 6 crores for the development of a hospital in Mangan, 170 crores for the establishment of a new medical college and Rs 150 crores for the procurement of medical equipment for the Namchi District Hospital.

Minister Scindia emphasized the central government’s commitment to enhance healthcare infrastructure in Sikkim, acknowledging the state’s growing healthcare needs. The approval of these proposals is expected to significantly improve medical services in the region, supporting both urban and rural communities.

Aimed at giving a major facelift to the state known as a tourist hotspot, Union Minister Scindia announced a glass bridge at Singshore, Dentam and a sky walk at Bhaleydhunga Yangang, South Sikkim among the 8 new projects announced for the state.

Striking a chord with the people of Sikkim, minister Scindia addressed the press conference in Nepali.

The Union Minister reiterated the Centre’s focus on northeast and said, “Development of the region continues to be a priority. We spent Rs 1 lakh crore every year on Northeast. 16000 km national highway has been built in Northeast in last 10 years. 4500 new mobile towers have come up in northeast in last 10 years and Northeast now has 17 airports.
44 Sikkim villages are being developed as vibrant villages, the Minister said.
