The altercation reportedly occurred in the presence of local BJP MLA Tafajjal Hossain, who is accused of instigating the violence

A violent clash broke out between two factions of the ruling BJP during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Panchayat members and the Pradhan in the Veluarchar area of the Sepahijala district of Tripura on Tuesday.

In the incident, a family member of a female panchayat member- Minoti Sarkar Deb- has been injured. The injured person has been identified as Laxmi Rani Deb.

As per reports, the altercation occurred in the presence of local BJP MLA Tafajjal Hossain, who is accused of instigating the violence.

The conflict reportedly broke out over disagreements regarding the selection of the Panchayat Pradhan and the Deputy Pradhan leading.

As per reports, Deb was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths who had gathered at the scene along with MLA Hossain.

“I was initially told that I would be made a member, but later, I was denied the position. When I confronted them as to why my name was not there on the list, I was accused of lying, and the boys who came along with the MLA attacked me. First, they hurled a series of punches at me, and later they pushed my relative, because of which she received injuries on her forehead,” informed Minoti Sarkar Deb

Laxmi Rani Dey, who sustained critical injuries, was initially rushed to Bishalgarh Sub-Division Hospital. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was later referred for further treatment.

In response to the violence, a section of local BJP workers staged a road blockade, demanding the immediate arrest of MLA Tafajjal Hossain, whom they hold responsible for the incident.

Later in the evening agitated mob also burned the effigy of the BJP MLA.

They urged Chief Minister Manik Saha and state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee to save them from the local MLA with whose activities the local people are unhappy.

The situation remains highly tense in the area, with additional security forces being deployed to maintain order.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in Boxanagar Veluarchar, as the clash has sparked outrage among party members and the local community.

The incident highlights ongoing internal conflicts within the BJP, particularly concerning the selection of local leaders in the state.

Earlier, a Mandal president from the Kamalasagar constituency in the same district had resigned over a similar dispute with the local MLA.
