Assam: Another Girl ‘Molested’ In Tezpur, Second Such Incident Within A Week

First Published: 27th August, 2024 11:22 IST

The incident happened in the Gotlung area in Tezpur when the girl was returning home from tuition

Days after the Dhing rape case that sent shockwaves across Assam, another case of alleged molestation has come to the fore in the state- this time from Tezpur.

In a case quite similar to the recent infamous gangrape incident of Dhing, a minor girl student was molested by two miscreants on the road on Monday evening.

As per reports, the incident happened in the Gotlung area in Tezpur when the girl was returning home from tuition.

The two miscreants, however, managed to flee from the spot after molesting the helpless girl.

The victim has registered a case and her family with the police, and a manhunt has been launched in the meantime to capture the culprits.

“We want the police to capture the culprits at the earliest. Such incidents scare us a lot, and we are afraid to send our girls outside, even during the day. Such incidents are having an adverse impact on our girl’s education as they are afraid to go to schools,” said a family member of the victim seeking anonymity.

“We do not want a repetition of Dhing. We urge the administration to strengthen vigil, especially after sunset,” the member added.

It may be mentioned here that a similar incident was reported from Gutlong on August 23, when two miscreants allegedly molested a girl during her evening walk.

However, the bystanders managed to capture one of the miscreants and handed him over to the police.

The miscreants were identified as Shahrukh Hussain and Miraz Ali.

While the public captured Hussain, Ali managed to flee from the scene and was captured by the police later.
