The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain for South Tripura district tomorrow, which could further deteriorate the situation

The death toll from the catastrophic floods in Tripura, worst in the state in 67 years since 1956, has mounted to 25, with the highest number of 15 deaths reported from the South Tripura district.

Over 1,00,000 people across all eight districts of the state are currently living in the 520 relief camps and as many as 17 lakh people have been affected due to the devastating floods.

The disaster has led to an initial loss of Rs 5000 crore though this figure is expected to increase as further evaluations are conducted, state government officials said.

The majority of areas have seen a decrease in water levels today, however, the Gomati River in Sonamura continues to flow above danger levels, posing risk to the region.

Air rescue operations continue in the Gomati and South Tripura districts, with teams successfully dropping 11,000 food packets to assist affected residents.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain for South Tripura district tomorrow, which could potentially further impact the current situation.

The Centre has approved Rs 40 crore in advance, as the central share from SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), to provide relief to the flood-affected people in Tripura, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
