#JusticeForAssamDaughter | Minor Gang-Raped In Assam: One Arrested, 2 Absconding, Case Registered Under POSCO Act

DGP GP Singh said that substantial evidence has been gathered against a key suspect and the Special Branch of Assam Police will also assist in the investigation.

In some prompt action, one person has been arrested and a case under the stringent POCSO Act has been registered in connection with the horrific gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Dhing in Nagaon district of Assam that has sent shockwaves across the state.

Assam DGP GP Singh, who visited Dhing today, has assured strict and swift action against those involved in the crime.

DGP Singh said that police are actively engaged in the investigation, focusing on all aspects to ensure a thorough and timely resolution.

The DGP said that substantial evidence has been gathered against a key suspect and the Special Branch of Assam Police will also assist in the investigation.

DGP Singh expressed optimism about the progress of the investigation, stating, “I am hopeful that we will soon get all the data we need. The investigation is moving in the right direction, and we expect to obtain all the details shortly.”

“A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. We have a lot of evidence against a suspect, and the police have been instructed to interrogate him. Moreover, the Special Branch of the Assam Police has been urged to provide the necessary assistance for the investigation.”

Earlier in the day, Nagaon SP Swapnaneel Deka confirmed that one accused has been arrested in connection with the case while two other accused are still absconding.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also promised tough action against those involved in the heinous crime.

The class 10 girl was raped by three young men aged 25-26 years after abducting her while she was on her way back home from tuition on Thursday.

Reportedly, three unidentified individuals were seen by witnesses dumping the girl by the roadside. Upon discovering her condition, locals rushed to her aid and took her to the hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Medical officials have confirmed that her condition remains critical.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage. Massive protests have erupted in Dhing as locals are demanding justice for the victim and strict action against those responsible. Demonstrators have taken to the streets, calling for swift law enforcement action.

Reports have come in of an attempted rape of a minor girl in Assam’s Behali as well.

The girl was abducted from her home. However, the victim managed to raise an alarm after which the miscreants fled from the spot. Five persons have been picked up in connection with the incident, out of which three have been sent to judicial custody.

Another similar case has been reported from Assam’s Lakhimpur district where miscreants tried to rape a minor. Prime accused Matab Ali is still absconding. The incident happened inside a place of religious importance. Reports of another 13-year-old girl being sexually assaulted have also emerged. However, further details into both the incidents are still awaited.

These heinous incidents from the state come to fore at a time when the nation is demanding justice for the August 9 murder and rape of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
