Rongmei Naga Council Manipur Calls Indefinite Bandh Over Delay in Inclusion of Naga Villages in Noney District

The bandh will affect key routes susch as--NH-37 connecting Imphal - Jiribam Road, Tongjei Maril Road connecting Bisnupur - Khoupum - Rengpang Road etc.

The demand for the inclusion of Naga villages in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts of Manipur into the Noney district has grown louder with the Rongmei Naga Council, announcing an indefinite blockade starting at midnight tonight.

The blockade is in protest against the state government’s alleged failure to implement the Alternative Administration Arrangement to Noney district which seeks to include minority Naga tribes living in the foothills of Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts for administrative conveniences.

The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur – Ntayphay Luangrian (RNCM- NTL), a zonal civil organisation affiliated under the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, has announced the indefinite total shutdown along NH-37 connecting Imphal – Jiribam Road, Tongjei Maril Road connecting Bisnupur – Khoupum – Rengpang Road and the Leimatak Loktak Project Road.

The organisation said that during the bandh, exceptions will be made for medical emergencies, essential public services, and educational purposes.

Individuals facing medical emergencies or those carrying necessary documentation will be permitted to pass through the blockade.

According to the RNCM, minority tribes in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, face inconveniences while travelling to their respective District headquarters.
