Scribes in Tripura Condemn Attack on Journalists in Bangladesh; Stage Protest Demonstration in Agartala

Reportedly, five journalists have died following recent attacks, while many others have been injured while carrying out in Bangladesh.

In a show of solidarity against the ongoing violence targeting their colleagues in Bangladesh, journalists from the Agartala Press Club (APC) staged a demonstration in Agartala today.

The protest highlighted the increasing incidents of attacks, looting, and arson directed at the journalist community across the border.

Demonstrators gathered to voice their concerns and demand action to protect press freedom and the safety of journalists in Bangladesh, condemning the attacks as a grave threat to democracy and free speech.

They also demanded immediate action by the interim government to stop the attacks on journalists and arrest those responsible.

“We have organized this demonstration against the killing of journalists in Bangladesh. There has been a lot of repression against journalists in Bangladesh. We vehemently condemn these attacks,” APC president Jayanta Bhattacharya said while speaking to Northeast Live.

“We want justice for the journalists who have been attacked in the neighboring country, and if the violence against the scribes doesn’t stop, our protest demonstration will continue to grow stronger. We demand that this menace be stopped immediately,” Bhattacharya added.
