The first Class X exam will take place in February, and the second in May, Education Minister Rakkam Sangma said

Good news for Meghalaya class X students. Starting next year, schools in the state will be holding board exams twice in a year so that students who fail the first time can re-appear the next time.

The state government also decided to eliminate the optional paper and the “best of five” system from the SSLC examinations starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.

The Meghalaya state cabinet has approved amendments to the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) Regulation for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination, 2011, in line with NEP 2020, marking a major shift in the examination schedule.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma said, “Starting from the 2025 academic year, board examinations will be held twice a year as per the New Education Policy 2020. The first exam will take place in February, and the second in May. This means that Class 10 students will have the opportunity to sit for two board exams starting from the upcoming academic year. The second exam is designed for students who have failed either all subjects or specific ones, enabling them to reappear without having to wait a full year. They will only need to sit for the subjects in which they were unsuccessful.”

The changes are part of a broader initiative to streamline the examination process and enhance the overall academic experience for students in Meghalaya.
