Another IIT Guwahati Student Commits Suicide, 2nd Incident in Four Months

IIT Guwahati has been rocked once again by a tragic incident of suicide. An M-Tech student allegedly died by suicide at IIT Guwahati, the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Soumya from Uttar Pradesh, and her body was recovered from her hostel room today.
The deceased was a boarder of Disang Hostel.
The exact reason behind her suicide is yet to be ascertained. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
This is the second incident of suicide in IIT Guwahati in four months.
In April this year, a 20-year-old first-year B Tech student from Bihar allegedly died by suicide at the prestigious institution.
A recent study has revealed that IITs, known for their academic excellence, also record a high rate of student suicides.
As many as 33 of 98 suicides in top higher education institutions over the past five years occurred at IITs, The Week reported quoting the Union Education Ministry data.
