MPSC Exam Row: KSU Burns Commission’s Effigy After It Fails To Disclose Marks Of MCS Candidates

MPSC in its defence, said that it has been unable to disclose the marks due to a petition filed by some candidates, who argued that disclosing their marks would infringe

Protesting against the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) ‘s failure to disclose the marks of all candidates who appeared for the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) Preliminary Examination, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) burnt an effigy of the Commission today.

Continuing with their attack on the Commission and accusing it of being non-transparent and clean, Reuben Najiar, Chairman of the KSU Employment Monitoring Cell said, “If there is really transparency in the functioning of the MPSC, then the question arises, why are there frequent changes in the commission’s statements?”

It should be noted that KSU had earlier demanded that the MPSC disclose the marks of the candidates who appeared for the MCS (Prelims).

However, the MPSC cited its inability to disclose the marks due to a petition filed by some candidates, who argued that disclosing their marks would infringe on their right to privacy.

Commenting on the MPSC’s response, Najiar further stated that the Union has failed to understand the kind of privacy the MPSC was referring to.

“When the majority of the MCS candidates have met with the KSU and expressed the need for transparency in the recruitment process by disclosing their marks, why is the MPSC trying to hide this information? Surprisingly, the MPSC issued another public notice, ostensibly seeking general consent from the candidates for the disclosure of their marks in the public domain. If there is true transparency, then why is the MPSC hesitant or buying time to disclose the marks?” he added.

Najiar further stated that the KSU will continue to protest until the MPSC agrees to comply with its demands for transparency.

It should be noted that on August 1, the KSU staged a sit-in demonstration at the MPSC premises, protesting against the Commission’s failure to address irregularities in the recruitment of MCS, MPS, and statistical officers in the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department.

Later, KSU activists met with the MPSC chairman and demanded that the Commission immediately publish the marks of all candidates who appeared for the MCS (Prelims) Examination.

Najiar later informed that the KSU had presented a series of demands aimed at ensuring transparency in the MPSC examination.
