In response to this crisis, the affected villagers are urgently appealing to the government for immediate assistance

Rising water levels of the Sermanga River have led to severe soil erosion and drastic impact on the Patgaon area of Kokrajhar district, affecting the villages of North Kashibari, West Banglajora, New Banglajora and New banglabari, leaving 35 families homeless and landless.

Most parts of the New Banglajora LP School, the sole government school in the area, has been washed away. Established in 1989 and converted into a government school in 2004, the institution now lies in ruins.

Speaking to Northeast Live, a local school teacher lamented, “Due to erosion, the school is almost gone. Its just a matter of time the whole school building will get washed away due to erosion. Now, we are looking forward to the government to solve our problems.”

35 families from New Banglabari have been rendered homeless and landless.

Another villager said, “It is very sad for us. If the school gets submerged, where will the students study? There are also no proper roads for coming to the school. The government should help us. I also urge BTR Chief Pramod Boro to help us. We urge the government to shift the school to a safer place.”
