Soon after assuming charge as the Chief Justice of India today, Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that parameters will be worked out for urgent mentioning and hearing of cases.
Justice Gogoi said that no urgent mentioning of cases will be allowed till parameters are fixed. At present, 20 minutes per day are reserved in the top court, for urgent hearing.
The first casualty of Gogoi’s announcement was advocate Mathews Nedumpara who wanted to congratulate CJI as captain of the judiciary but CJI brushed him aside saying let’s get on with work and that these congratulatory messages inside court are not done.
Next in the casualty list was advocate Prashant Bhushan, who wanted to mention about the deportation process of the 7 Rohingya immigrants today. The new CJI said that the case will be listed after the case is being filed.
Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association, newly appointed Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that he, along with his colleagues are trying to introduce a system in which cases don’t get dropped from the list.
