This decision will significantly ease the path for Manipur students, allowing them to take the exam locally

The Centre has reinstated the NEET-PG 2024 examination centre in Imphal, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said.

Taking to social media, Singh emphasized that this crucial decision will enable students from the state to take the exam locally, significantly easing their path to academic and professional success. He also expressed gratitude to Union Health Minister JP Nadda for his role in reinstating the NEET-PG 2024 exam centre in Imphal.

Taking to X, Singh said, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Shri JP Nadda ji, Hon’ble Union Health Minister and National President of BJP, for reinstating the NEET-PG 2024 exam centre in Imphal. This crucial decision will enable students from the state to take the exam locally, significantly easing their path to academic and professional success.”

Earlier, Chief Minister Singh had formally communicated with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, outlining the ongoing unrest and law and order challenges in Manipur since May 3, 2023. Despite these issues, he noted substantial improvements in the situation. Singh highlighted that Imphal has earlier held NEET-PG examinations without any security concerns.

However, the recent announcement by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) had excluded Imphal from the list of test centres for the re-examination on August 11. This exclusion posed significant challenges for local students, given the current restrictions on free movement along national highways, making travel to out-of-state centres difficult. Additionally, the financial burden of air travel is unaffordable for many students.

The Chief Minister underscored that the state government, with funding from the Ministry of Home Affairs, has established the necessary infrastructure to conduct online examinations. He had requested the Union Minister’s personal intervention to reinstate Imphal as a test centre for NEET-PG, thereby alleviating the difficulties faced by aspiring medical students in Manipur.
