Actor-politician Jaya Bachchan recently expressed her displeasure on being addressed as Jaya Amitabh Bachchan In Rajya Sabha by Rajya Sabha deputy chairman, Harivansh Narayan Singh during the session on Monday.

Narayan invited her to speak, saying, “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan Ji, please.”

Reacting sharply, Jaya Bachchan reminded the deputy chairman and everyone present that she has her own distinct identity.

She stated, “Just saying Jaya Bachchan would have been enough.”

Deputy Chairman then said, “Your full name was written here in official records, I just repeated the same.”

Jaya Bachchan said that the emerging trend of women being known by their husband’s names, implying they lack personal identity, achievements, and recognition.

“This is a completely new phenomenon,” she stated.
