NTPC Bongaigaon Highlights Commitment to Sustainable Power and Community Development

NTPC Bongaigaon, a prominent power generation unit with a capacity of 750 MW, reiterated its dedication to sustainable power generation and community development in a recent media interaction.

During the event, senior management led by Akhilesh Singh, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon, shared significant operational and performance highlights.

Singh emphasized the station’s ongoing environmental efforts, particularly the implementation of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) technology to mitigate pollution. Since 2006, the facility has planted over 193,000 trees, demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship.

A key aspect of NTPC Bongaigaon’s societal contributions is its Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) program, which has been conducted successfully for three consecutive years. The initiative trains 40 girls annually, focusing on education, holistic growth, and life skills.

Singh extended his gratitude to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and district administration for their ongoing support in all initiatives.

Bongaigaon Thermal Power Plant was first commissioned in June 2015. The source of coal for the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Plant is Margherita area in Assam under NECL and Raniganj in the state of West Bengal that is from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). The primary fuel used for the generation of power in Power Plant is Coal. The power plant is managed and controlled by the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC).
