Pre-Panchayat Poll Violence in Tripura: CPIM candidate succumbs to injuries, party calls for 12 hour bandh tomorrow

Ahead of the Panchayat Polls in Tripura on August 8, pre poll violence has claimed the life of CPIM candidate Badal Chandra Shil, who was allegedly attacked by ruling BJP goons in Belonia yesterday. Shil succumbed to his injuries today.

Shil was rushed to the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala yesterday soon after the attack on his. He had undergone a critical surgery at the Hospital but could not be saved.

Earlier in the day, senior CPIM leaders, including former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, former Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar and Tripura CPIM Secretary Jitendra Choudhury had visited Shil in the hospital.

CPIM has called for a 12-hour bandh tomorrow from 6AM to 6PM to protest the killing of Shil.

Earlier CPIM had blocked the gate of the Tripura police headquarters, accusing the police of inaction and alleging that the attacks on the opposition are being carried out with the tacit approval of the ruling party.

It is worth mentioning here that the CPIM and the Congress has been alleging attacks by BJP supporters on their workers and candidates ahead of the 3-tier Panchayat polls.
