Kaziranga Floods: 163 animals including 9 rhinos dead

The park authority, in association with the forest department, rescued 133 animals and released 111 animals into the wild after treatment

The death toll of animals in the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) due to the has gone up to 163. The number of rhino deaths in the Park, home to over 2000 rhinos, have gone up to 9.

As per official data released by the Park authorities today, apart from the 9 rhinos, a total of 135 Hog Deer, 2 Swamp Deer, and 2 Sambars have died by drowning in floodwaters so far.

Moreover, 9 Hog Deer, 1 Swamp Deer, 1 Rhesus Macaque, and 1 Otter (pup) died under care, the report added.

The KNP report further added that the park authority, in association with the forest department, rescued 133 animals and released 111 animals into the wild after treatment.

Reportedly, seven animals, including two rhino calves and two elephant calves, are under treatment.

Despite the flood situation at Kaziranga National Park witnessing a marginal improvement, 62 forest camps are still underwater, and 4 camps have been vacated. Kaziranga National Park has as many as 233 forest camps.
