The Dominic Sangma-directed Garo film Rapture has been nominated for Best Film— Critics Choice at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
Rapture is the only film from the Northeast to be nominated for the prestigious award.
Seven more films, in addition to Rapture, have been nominated in the Best Film—Critics Choice category of the prestigious film festival.
The other films are Dear Jassi (Punjabi), Girls Will Be Girls (English/Hindi), Kaathal – The Core (Malayalam), Kabuliwala (Bengali), Laapataa Ladies (Hindi), Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A (Kannada), and Thadavu (The Sentence) (Malayalam).
The Garo film has already garnered global recognition. In May this year, it was screened on over 1,000 screens in France, becoming the first film from the Northeast to achieve this feat.

The film explores the rich cultural and spiritual tapestry of the Garo community.
It is worth mentioning here that Dominic Sangma is the first Garo filmmaker who garnered a lot of attention with his first short film, Karyukai. Inc., in 2013.
