A three-judge bench of the apex court will commence hearing on Ayodhya case from October 29.

The Supreme Court by 2:1 majority decided that a 3-judge bench would begin hearing in the Ayodhya land dispute, pending in the top court for last seven years. The title dispute was not referred to a larger bench.

The 3-judge bench includes Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer.

In a previous ruling in 1994, the Supreme Court had ruled that namaz could be offered anywhere and that a mosque was not mandatory for the practice.

The verdict had thus ruled that the government could, if required, acquire the land on which a mosque is built on.
