CPIM seeks intervention of Election Commission for forthcoming three-tier Panchayat polls

Anticipating intimidation, forced withdrawals, and obstruction of opposition candidates by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPIM] and the Indian National Congress in Tripura have called on the State Election Commission to allow online submission of nomination papers for the forthcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, expected next month. Both the parties after meeting the State Election Commission also requested enhanced security measures to ensure a conducive environment for a free and fair election. The opposition parties have emphasized the need for facilities to e-filing of nomination papers and better security for opposition candidates, polling agents, and voters.
