Tripura government promises assistance to security forces for stopping border-related crimes
North Tripura police on Thursday night arrested 23 Rohingyas in two separate incidents from two different locations.
The arrested persons, including children, had illegally entered Tripura from Bangladesh.
In the first incident, North Tripura police apprehended 16 Rohingyas, including children and women, at Dharmanagar ISBT on Thursday night, informed Devi Prasad Roy, Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar police station.
In another incident reported from the same district, Churaibari police station personnel arrested seven Rohingyas, including three women and two children, during a routine bus check.
Churaibari police station OC Konkan Shah informed that during interrogation, the detainees revealed they had been living in a Rohingya camp in Cox Bazar in Bangladesh.
“They had crossed the border and were on their way to Hyderabad; they had lived previously,” Shah informed NorthEast Live.
Both cases are under investigation, and the detainees have been charged under the BNS, Passport Act, and Foreigner’s Act.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held a high-level meeting with the security agencies on Thursday. The high-level meeting was held after several cases of infiltration were reported.
Chief Minister Saha held a meeting with the BSF and other security agencies and reviewed the issues relating to human trafficking, smuggling and other border-related crimes.
The chief minister further directed the security agencies to take concrete steps to stop all the illegal activities on the India-Bangladesh border.
Chief Minister Saha further assured the security agencies that his government will provide all the necessary assistance for this purpose.
