Manipur Police on Tuesday night have arrested five persons belonging to AMSU and DESAM student organisations.
As per sources, two persons have been picked up from AMSU including the president Manjit Sarangthen, while three others belonged to DESAM, including the arrest of vice-president.
Reportedly, the police are also on the lookout for members from the other students organisations that have jointly called for the 48 hour long general strike.
A total of six student organisations have called for a 48 hour long general strike throughout the state from Wednesday midnight in protest against the recent police crackdown at the Manipur University campus resulting in the detaining of several students and faculty members.
Meanwhile, the Manipur state government has also toughened its stand ahead of the 48 hour long general strike.
A circular has been issued by the state government all state government employees to attend office during the general strike period.
The circular stated that attendance report should be sent out to the concerned administrative departments and also warned of action against those who are found absent from office during this period.
The circular also directed all deputy commissioners to ensure smooth functioning of offices during the general strike period.
The 48 hour long general strike called by the six student organisations under the banner of Joint Student Organisation begins from September 26 midnight and will continue till September 28 midnight.
