Rains, floods bring life to a grinding halt in Manipur, public holiday today

In view of the worsening flood situation, all schools in the state will also remain closed on June 3 and 4.

Life has come to a grinding halt in Manipur today. The state government has declared July 3 as a public holiday for all government offices including Public Sector Undertakings /Corporations /Autonomous Bodies/Societies under the Government of Manipur, all Banks, Financial Institutions and LIC, etc. due to the heavy rains and flooding across the state.

Several places in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts are inundated by flood waters as many rivers of the state have overflowed due to incessant rains over the last few days.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey urged everyone to remain indoors unless there is an emergency so that the authorities can smoothly conduct relief and rescue operations as well as the evacuation of those who are stuck.

In view of the worsening flood situation, all schools in the state will also remain closed on June 3 and 4.

Rising water levels of major rivers in Imphal are threatening to add to the woes of the people. A flood advisory has been issued by the district administration.

Imphal East district magistrate Kh Diana earlier issued a flood advisory warning people of incessant rainfall in various areas of Imphal East district and advised people to take necessary precautions to prevent the loss of life and property.
