Sibeule aged 71 from NDPP was the oldest female candidate to win from Ward 6 under Peren Town Council.
The Nagaland Urban Local Body polls held on June 26 was historic in more than one way. While the elections, counting for which is going on today, was held after a gap of 20 years, this was the first ULB election to be held with 33 per cent of the seats being reserved for women. And today, the youngest and the oldest women candidates won the elections.
21- year-old Nzanrhoni I Mozhui has become the youngest candidate to win the ULB polls from Bhandari Town Council Ward 1 under Wokha district while 71-year-old Sibeule from NDPP was the oldest female candidate to win from Ward 6 under Peren Town Council.
Mozhui fought the ULB Polls on a BJP ticket. She defeated Hayina Tungoe of the NPF. Mozhui received a total of 172 votes while Tungoe received a total of 133 votes.
Addressing the media in Kohima, Nagaland Election Commissioner T John Longkumer congratulated the women candidates and said that this time it was a big win for all the women candidates.
Of the total 523 candidates in the fray, 198 were women.
Another key takeaway of the ULB elections was that Nathan Kent aged 25 from JDU was the youngest male candidate to be elected from Ward-5 under Tseminyu Town Council.
