Mizoram: NIA convicts 2 members of banned Bangladesh terror group, police establishes terror links

Two members of Ansar-al-Islam, a banned Bangladeshi terrorist organization, have been convicted by the Special Court, National Investigation Agency (NIA) for their involvement in illegal entry into India and the possession of fake Aadhar Cards.
The two Bangladeshi nationals identified as Mahmud Hassan and Mohamad Sayyad Hussain under Sections 471 and 476 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946; and Section 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The two have been charged with five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10, 000.
The investigation, carried out by the Mizoram Police involved the examination of the informant and seizure witnesses. Data was extracted from the mobile phones of both the accused with the help of the Mizoram CID. Their rental premises were visited and seizures from the place included a number of mobile phones and SIM cards, including a Bangla Link’ SIM card; a total of eleven mobile phones and sixteen SIM cards were seized from the two accused.
After the case was re-registered by the NIA, Guwahati Branch, all the records and materials were transferred to the Agency. The NIA visited the place of occurrence, viz. Silsuri village, Mamit District, Mizoram, and collected details. A number of witnesses, including the informant, were re-examined. The investigation revealed that the two accused had entered India illegally with fake Aadhar Cards and stayed at different places to void detection, communication with their leaders (handlers) through “protectedtext.com” and seldom making voice calls.
Material collected in the investigation showed that Mahmud Hassan, had associated with the Ansarul Bangla team and the Ansar-Al- Islam had possession of incriminating material such as data with instructions on guerilla warfare, chemical compositions of explosives, and so on.
The data from a mobile seized from his possession also showed that he had conducted a recce of public places in Bengaluru, and had tried to procure weapons in association with Mohamad Sayad Hussain.
The investigation showed that Mohamad Sayad Hussain, had crossed into India with a fake Aadhar Card given to him in Bangladesh. He was also associated with the Ansar-Al-Islam, proscribed terrorist organization in Bangladesh. Data recovered from is mobile phone showed that he had been planning to commit murder and terrorist acts in Bangladesh, and had tied to procure weapons onwards that end in Mizoram and Tripura.
