Despite more than 96 percent of the India-Bangladesh border along Tripura being fenced with barbed wire, the influx continues

At least four Bangladeshi women and one Indian citizen acting as a tout were arrested from the Agartala railway station just when they were about to board trains to Ahmedabad and Pune.

The officer-in-charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Agartala, Tapas Das said that the arrested women have been identified as Meem Sultana (23), Rubaiya Sultana (20), Ritu Begam (28), and Jyoti Khatun (20) ), and the Indian tout was identified as Md Kashem Miah (24).

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the Bangladeshi women were seeking employment opportunities in Indian cities such as Ahmedabad and Pune. However, they lacked the proper documentation and visas required for legal entry and travel within India.

The Indian tout from Sepahijala district of Tripura, is believed to have facilitated their illegal entry into the country.

A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station under Passport Act and Foreigner’s Act.

In the past few months, several hundred infiltrators, predominantly Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingyas, have been arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from Tripura.

This surge in arrests raises concerns about the security of the border, particularly as Tripura shares an 856 km international boundary with Bangladesh.

Despite more than 96 percent of this border being fenced with barbed wire, the influx continues.
