Tragic: Assam youth drowns trying to rescue friend

In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old youth lost his life while trying to rescue his friend from drowning in the Palla River in Khusrabari village under Assam’s Baska district.

The deceased has been identified as Manzil Khan, resident of Moirajhar village.

As per inputs, Manzil along with seven friends went to the river on Saturday to take a bath. While taking bath, one of his friends drowned.

In an effort to save his friend, Manzil jumped into the river. Manzil managed to save his friend but he went missing.

After receiving the information, local police and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) personnel reached the spot in search of the youth. But due to the darkness, the rescue operation had to be suspended on Saturday.

On Sunday morning, the SDRF team recovered the body of Manzil.
