Violence in Manipur has reduced… solution in next 2-3 months: CM N Biren Singh

The Chief Minister added, a solution or treatment to the issue will be reached, by learning the details of the root causes, which includes influx and drug menace.

Even as reports of violence continue to trickle in from different parts of Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said today that violence in the state has reduced and of the last 14 months, violence was reported in only 6-7 months, rest of the period the state was peaceful.

He once again, attributed the ethnic unrest in Manipur to influx of illegal immigrants and drug menace from beyond the border and said that a solution to the situation in the state would be found in the next 2-3 months.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a Yoga Day celebration in Imphal, Chief Minister Biren Singh said, “Violence is everywhere and particularly in Manipur it has reduced like anything. Going through the last 14 months even though the actual crisis or violence has only happened in half of that period. That means out of 14 months, I calculated it is only for 6-7 months. The rest of the 7-8 months were peaceful. Schools are opening, business establishments are opening. Everything is opening in the state of Manipur but in some pockets due to the prevailing violence disturbance is there, no doubt. But due to the lack of security personnel there were some small incidents in parts of Jiribam and parts of the state, but those force who had left for the election duty have come back. We have deployed them in the vulnerable areas, and now I think the situation will calm down”.
Chief Minister Biren Singh also exuded hope that a solution will be reached within the next 2 to 3 months. He added Prime Minister Modi after coming to power for the third term has given top most priority to Manipur with Union Home Minister Amit Shah Chairing a high level meet on the issue.
The Manipur CM said, “After Narendra Modi became the PM for the third time, Manipur violence has been included in the top priority, for bringing peace in the state. Accordingly, Union Home Minister has taken up the high-level security meeting from all the agencies. He is collecting every information. An action plan will definitely come up. I hope that at the earliest, within the next 2-3 months, some solution will definitely be there.”
