The meeting was also attended by Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today chaired a meeting with the three district councils to discuss the need to ensure uniformity in the issuance of Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates in the state.
The meeting was also attended by Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
Addressing media persons, Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that the meeting was held because the need was felt to have uniformity in the approach to issuance of ST and Clan certificates so that it is broad-based and includes the entire state of Meghalaya.
“Because the Office Memorandum (OM) issued by the Social Welfare department was confined to an Act of the KHADC. So, we thought it prudent to make it more broad-based and include the other two district councils — Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC),” said Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
“It was decided that the next meeting would be held at my level as chairman of the committee that would elicit and solicit the opinion of the three ADCs and will also include the DCA department and the law department to study the suggestions and inputs from all the three ADCs. So that we can come up with a notification or OM that covers the issue of ST certificates for the entire state,” Minister Lyngdoh added.
The Minister said that the next meeting will be held after receiving the written framework to be adopted by the two district councils–GHADC and JHADC.
