Assam government is in constant touch with Bhutan and Arunachal over sharing of rain data: Cabinet Minister Ranoj Pegu on Assam flood preparedness

Over 2.96 lakh people across 19 districts of Assam are hit by the flood triggered by torrential rainfall over the past few days.
The Assam Cabinet, which was chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,discussed the flood situation in the state on Wednesday.
While speaking to Northeast Live, Minister Ranoj Pegu said, “We are monitoring the conditions of our entire embankments to protect the villagers from flood. And also we are keeping close eyes on the situation in the state.”
He further said that the state government is in constant touch with neighbouring Bhutan and Arunachal over sharing of rain data and all agencies have been kept on standby in case the situation excalates further.
However, over 2.96 lakh people across 19 districts of Assam are hit by the flood triggered by torrential rainfall over the past few days.
According to the flood report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), at least 245379 people have been affected in the Karimganj district alone.
The water level of the Kopili River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra River, is also flowing above the danger level mark at Kampur in Nagaon district, per ASDMA.
Cabinet Minister also stated that several key decisions were taken during the meeting today.
The first major decision during the cabinet meet today was that the delimitation process for the panchayat polls in the state would be complete by August 30.
It was also decided that cabinet ministers Ashok Singhal and Ajanta Neog would be meeting traders on the GST issue and would be submitting a report within a period of 15 days.
Also, it was decided that youth clubs would be set up in ever constituency at a cost of Rs 15 lakhs. The step would be taken to bring out sporting talents in Assam.
