The Assam CM's letter to West Bengal CM comes 2 days after he assured that he will do the needful so that the case is handed over to the CBI.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee to hand over the Faijan Ahmed death case to the CBI.
Chief Minister Sarma sent a letter to the West Bengal Chief Miniser stating, “In view of the shocking finding of the latest forensic report, it is imperative that the perpetrators of the horrific crime as well as any other person involved in concealing the crime, are brought to book, thereby ensuring justice to the deceased and closure to the grief stricken parents. I therefore, request you to kindly over the case to the CBI for a transparent and fair investigation.”
Expressing grave concern over what has happened, the Assam CM seeking Mamata Banerjee’s intervention into the case wrote, “The sudden mysterious death of the bright young man has evoked a deep sense of grief in Assam and on behalf of the parents, I request your kind intervention so that a thorough investigation is carried out into the circumstances surrounding the death of Late Faizan Ahmed.”
The Assam CM’s letter to West Bengal CM comes 2 days after he assured that he will do the needful so that the case is handed over to the CBI.
The death of Assam’s 23-year old Faizan Ahmed’s death at the IIT-Kharagpur took a shocking twist after the second postmortem report indicated that the student was murdered and that he did not by suicide.
Worth mentioning, a gunshot wound and a stab wound have been found on Faizan’s neck, revealed a second forensic examination, which was ordered by the Calcutta High Court.
According to the report prepared by court-appointed forensic expert Dr A K Gupta, Faizan’s neck showed signs of a gunshot wound on the upper left side and a stab wound on the right.
However, these injuries were not documented by police during the initial investigation nor were they filmed during the first autopsy conducted at Midnapore Medical College in October 2022, the report added.
23-year-old Faizan’s semi-decomposed body was found in his hostel room at IIT Kharagpur on October 14 2022. While the IIT authorities deemed his death a suicide, Faizan’s family claimed it was murder. Faizan, who hailed from Tinsukia in Eastern Assam, was a 3rd-year student of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.
Ever since Faizan’s death, his parents had been pushing for a CBI probe into the incident.
