Faizan Ahmed death case: Family seeks CBI probe, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma assures all possible support

Assam CM Sarma today said that his government will do the needful so that the case is being handed over to the apex investigating agency-CBI.

Amid the deepening mystery over 23-year old Faizan Ahmed’s death at the IIT-Kharagpur, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured all possible assistance from his side so that justice can be delivered.

The Assam CM’s assurance assumes a lot of significance when latest forensic reports have indicated that the Faizan, hailing from Assam, was murdered. Thus the reports have actually substantiated Faizan’s parents claims, that their son was murdered and he did not die by suicide.

Ever since the incident occured, the family of the deceased had been calling for a CBI probe into the matter although the matter is under investigation by the West Bengal Police and the case being monitored by the Calcutta High Court.

Assam CM Sarma today said that his government will do the needful so that the case is being handed over to the apex investigating agency-CBI.

He said, “I have been helping (Faizan’s family) in whatever way possible. The case is going on at the Kolkata High Court. We will try that the court hands over the case to CBI.”

Meanwhile, Faizan’s mother said, “The police and the IIT-Kharagpur authorities had termed it suicide. But due to the intervention of the Calcutta High Court and the Assam Government, a second autopsy was done. When the forensic team submitted the report to the court, we came to know that he was shot and stabbed with sharp objects like knife. The court had formed an SIT to investigate the case, but the SIT did not even let us know what has been done in the past 2 years. Why my son was killed, who killed him, they informed nothing. They took me to IIT-Kharagpur twice to examine the room where Faizan was found dead. They had meeting twice with me. But till now they have submitted nothing to the court.
So I appeal Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and I have also told the court that there must be a CBI probe into the case. I believe I will get justice if CM Himanta Biswa Sarma intervenes into the matter. Whether the guilty gets life sentence or death sentence it does not matter for me, but I just want to see as to who killed my son.”

Worth mentioning, a gunshot wound and a stab wound have been found on Faizan’s neck, revealed a second forensic examination, which was ordered by the Calcutta High Court.

The findings are significant since the High Court is expected to hear the case next week.

According to the report prepared by court-appointed forensic expert Dr A K Gupta, Faizan’s neck showed signs of a gunshot wound on the upper left side and a stab wound on the right.

However, these injuries were not documented by police during the initial investigation nor were they filmed during the first autopsy conducted at Midnapore Medical College in October 2022, the report added.

23-year-old Faizan’s semi-decomposed body was found in his hostel room at IIT Kharagpur on October 14 2022.

While the IIT authorities deemed his death a suicide, Faizan’s family claimed it was murder. Faizan, who hailed from Tinsukia in Eastern Assam, was a 3rd-year student of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.
