4-lane National Highway in upper Assam likely to be completed by this year: CM Sarma

The 20 kilometres National Highway-37 stretch of road from Silchar to Budha Nagar in Assam which is being built into a 4-lane National Highway is likely to be completed by December this year, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

During his visit to Sivasagar on Saturday, Chief Minister Sarma said that the ongoing construction work of the 4-lane National Highway had been causing inconveniences to commuters and travellers in several parts of Upper Assam and he regretted it

CM Sarma said, “I have been monitoring the ongoing work and recently when I reviewed the progress work of the project, the builder informed me that the work will be completed by this year, so hopefully it would be finished by December 2024.”

In January this year, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways sanctioned Rs 957 crore for the project.

Once completed, it will augment connectivity between Barak Valley and the States of Mizoram, Manipur, and Meghalaya, earlier said CM Sarma.

He had also said that 2024 will be a year of big investments and ambitious projects in Assam.
