Tripura continues to bear brunt of illegal influx from Bangladesh, 2 more arrested

The couple, who were accompanied by their child, had been reportedly residing in West Bengal and had arrived in Agartala.

Acting on specific intelligence, a Bangladeshi couple, along with four Indian agents who assisted them in crossing the border, were arrested by the Government Railway Police, in a joint operation with the Railway Protection Force and other security agencies, at the Agartala railway station.
The couple, who were accompanied by their child, had been reportedly residing in West Bengal and had arrived in Agartala. They were preparing to return to Bangladesh by crossing the border illegally with the help of the agents but were apprehended before they could do so.
It may be mentioned, that the border state continues to face the brunt of illegal influx from Bangladesh. To add to it, the state is also emerging as a transit route for drugs smuggling to Bangladesh. In 2023, the BSF has appehended over 1000 people while trying to breach the international border with bangladesh. Not only this, drugs worht a whopping Rs 94 crore has been seized in the previous year.
