Sheena Bora murder case: Bones and remains found ‘go missing’

First Published: 14th June, 2024 21:36 IST

The missing evidence consists of skeletal remains recovered by Pen police in 2012, the year Sheena Bora was allegedly murdered.

Hard to believe, but a key piece of evidence connected to the sensational Sheena Bora murder trial has apparently gone missing, reports said.

On Thursday, the prosecution told the CBI special court in Mumbai that the body remains purportedly of Sheena Bora recovered by the Pen police in 2012 are not traceable.

The missing evidence consists of skeletal remains were recovered by Pen police of Raigad district of Maharashtra in 2012 where Sheena’s body was allegedly buried. It was the same year Sheena Bora was allegedly murdered. The remains of Sheena were first found by the officer of Pen police station and they had sent it for forensic examination to JJ hospital Mumbai.

The development comes during the testimony of Dr Zeba Khan, a forensic expert from JJ Hospital who initially examined the bones in 2012 and confirmed they were human remains.

However, after failing to find them, the prosecution is reportedly prepared to proceed with Dr Khan’s testimony without presenting the bones as evidence.

This move, likely to weaken the prosecution’s case, was met with no objection from the defence.

The court adjourned the matter to June 27 for recording evidence in the case.

Needs to be mentioned here that, Indrani Mukherjea, former media executive and mother of Sheena, a key accused in the alleged murder of her daughter, was granted bail by the Supreme Court in May 2022, nearly seven years after her arrest in August 2015. However, she is still facing trial for allegedly killing Bora on April 24, 2012.
