Manipur CM N Biren Singh congratulates Congress candidates on winning both LS seats in state

First Published: 5th June, 2024 14:56 IST

The results in Manipur can be seen as a verdict against the N Biren Singh government and an impact of anger against the year-long ethnic violence.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh congratulated Congress candidates Alfred Kanngam S Arthur and Bimol Akoijam, a professor in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), on winning both the Lok Sabha seats in the state in the 18th Lok Sabha Election.

Bimol Akoijam won the Inner Manipur seat defeating state Education Minister and BJP candidate Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh by a margin of 1,09,801 votes.

Alfred Kanngam Arthur won the Outer Manipur seat defeating Kachui Timothy Zimik of NPF by a margin of 85418 votes.

BJP did not file a candidate for Outer Manipur and supported NPF’s Alfred Kanngam Arthur.

CM N Biren Singh said that the public has given its mandate and the welfare of all the state’s indigenous people is what is really important.

“I congratulate INC Candidates Shri @Bimol_Akoijam and Shri Alfred Kanngam S Arthur for their respective victories at 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency and 2-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the 18th Lok Sabha Elections. The public has given its mandate, and what truly matters is that we all aspire for the welfare of all the indigenous people of the state. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi ji, the BJP government will continue to work with the elected representatives towards the growth and development of all sections in the state. We remain firm in our commitment to work towards serving the masses and building a better Manipur for the future generations,” CM N Biren Singh posted on X.
