The HYC has launched this eviction drive after the organization's two-week deadline, following a joint inspection conducted by the district administration along with them.

The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Thursday conducted an eviction drive against the alleged illegal settlers at Lum Survey in Meghalaya.

The HYC has launched this eviction drive after the organization’s two-week deadline, following a joint inspection conducted by the district administration along with them.

The organisation has asked the alleged illegal settlers to take their belongings and leave the place before dismantling their houses.

Earlier, in the first week of May, a joint inspection was conducted at Lum Survey following the demand for eviction of illegal settlers.

Highly concerned over the “illegal settlement”, the HYC took the matter in it’s own hands and in fact carried out an inquiry through spot verification. Soon the HYC found that the families were illegally staying without necessary approvals from the concerned authorities.

The joint inspection was led by an additional magistrate and officials of the Defence Estate Office, Guwahati, Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB), police and members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC).

During the survey it was found that there are more than 80 households, who were illegally rersiding in the land, falling under the Defence Estate Office.

Last month, Hynniewtrep Youth Council submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong requesting action against illegal settlers at Lum Survey.
