Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve will be shut from May 31, 2024.
With the arrival of monsoon and the conclusion of the tourist season, top tourist destinations in Assam–Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve, Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve and the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary have shut their doors for tourists for this season.
The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its rich biodiversity, which has one of the highest concentrations of one-horned rhinos in the world has suspended jeep safari and elephant safari for the 2024-25 tourist season from today until further notice.
The Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve, which is a home to Bengal tigers, rhinos, and a diverse array of birds has been closed from May 15 until further notice. With this closure, all tourist activities such as gipsy safari, and elephant safari have also been closed during this period.
River rafting and elephant safari at the Manas National Park has been shut down temporarily with effect from May 20. However, the jeep safari will continue till June 5.
The tourist season in every national park and wildlife sanctuary in Assam starts in October every year and concludes in mid-May of the subsequent year, aligning with seasonal changes and wildlife migration patterns.
However, this year, the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has extended its closing dates for the season to May 31, 2024, owing to the tourist inflow to the wildlife park from across India, post-Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the national park on March 8.
