The N.F. Railway has appealed people not to board trains without tickets and warned stern action against violators

There seems to be no stopping to ticketless travel in trains, especially in the Northeast Frontier division, although the N.F. Railway has not lowered its guard to get rid of this. Fine to the tune of a whopping Rs 66.27 crore have been collected from such errant travellers, who lead to inconveniences for genuine passengers.

As per a statement issued by the N. F. Railway, “From April, 2023 to March, 2024, 7,93,170 nos. of cases of ticketless/irregular ticket passengers were detected, leading to more than Rs. 66.27 Cr earnings towards realization of fare & penalties from offenders.”

However, the numbers were lesser in the previous Financial Year of 2022-2023. As per the statement, 7,78,808 cases of ticketless passengers were detected, and Rs 62.98 crore was realized as fine.

What is even more significant is that during the current FY from 1st April, 2024 till 19th May, 2024 such drives lead to recovering an amount of more than Rs. 10.65 Cr. from ticketless travellers.

Hence, the N.F. Railway has appealed people not to board trains without tickets.

The Railway in it’s message said, “N. F. Railway appeals to the general public to travel with proper & valid tickets and carry valid Identity cards in order to avoid inconvenience. Now passengers can purchase unreserved tickets from one part of the country to another through Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application on their smart phones. The UTS application can be downloaded from both android & apple app-store.”

“Travelling without proper ticket or beyond authorised distance may lead to levy of excess charge and fare. In case a passenger fails or refuses to pay the same on demand, he shall be in default of payment and will be prosecuted under relevant sections of The Railways Act, 1989,” the N.F. Railway has warned.
