A girl student of IIT, Guwahati, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room.

Nagashree SC, a B.Tech first year mechanical engineering student hailing from Karnataka, was a boarder of Dhansiri hostel of the elite engineering college.

Police have termed the incident to be a case of suicide based on preliminary investigations.

Significantly, the young student left a suicide note in which she claimed that the pressure of excelling in engineering was too much for her to bear and that she did not want to pursue engineering but did it due to pressure from her parents.

She also wrote that instead of becoming an engineer she wanted to become a teacher. The incident has shocked the students and faculty members.

IIT officials said family members of the young girl has been informed about the incident and that they are on their way to Guwahati to take custody of Nagashree’s body.
