History has been created as Meghalaya got it’s first woman DGP after Idashisha Nongrang was appointed to the post of the top cop in the state today.

A 1992 batch IPS officer, Idashisha Nongrang was a frontrunner in the race along with RP Meena, a 1993 batch IPS officer and Deepak Kumar, a 1994 batch IPS officer.

Idashisha Nongrang has been appointed for a period of 2 years with effect from 20th May till 19th May, 2026.

Nongrang has already served as acting DGP in 2021 and is currently heading the Civil Defence & Home Guards.

Incumbent DGP LR Bishnoi’s term ends on May 19.

Worth mentioning there were intense speculations over the appointment of the next Meghalaya DGP since political parties had backed for the appointment of a ‘local’ to the post.
