Some good news for the people of Tripura who have been reeling under a severe shortage of petrol and diesel due to the rail track in Assam’s Dima Hasao being damaged following heavy rains and storm.

Chief Minister Manik Saha said today that the first rake carrying petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL) has safely crossed the landslide-affected site between Jatinga Lampur and New Harangajao and is expected to reach Tripura tonight.

“First POL rake crossed the landslide-affected site between Jatinga-Haranga after April 26th and is expected to reach Tripura late night, today,” CM Saha said in a post on X.

Tripura was facing the shortage with capital city Agartala being the worst affected with most petrol pumps going dry. Most of the state’s fuel and essentials through the rail route via Assam.

Saha also expressed deep gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for swiftly addressing the issue. “Big appreciation to the NFR officials and workers for tirelessly restoring operations and to the people of Tripura for their cooperation. This rake will undoubtedly alleviate the fuel crisis in the state,” CM Saha twitted.

With the fuel crisis deepening, CM Saha had written to the Railways Minister seeking his help in restoring the track and ensuring goods train movement to Tripura.

Following the fuel crisis in Tripura, protests and scuffles were reported from various petrol pumps in and around Agartala.
