Will woman IPS officer Idashisha Nongrang be Meghalaya’s next DGP?

Deputy Chief Minister Tynsong said that Meghalaya government recommended the names of Assam DGP and Spl DGP but they are not interested

With less than 10 days to go for Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi to retire, the state government is yet to finalise the name of the next DGP of Meghalaya.

But history will be created if Idashisha Nongrang, a 1992 batch woman IPS officer, is picked by the government as the top cop as she is being reported to be a frontrunner in the race.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had recommended the names of Idashisha Nongrang, RP Meena, a 1993 batch IPS officer and Deepak Kumar, a 1994 batch IPS officer, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said today.

Among these names, Nongrang has already served as acting DGP in 2021.

“About 3-4 days back we have sent the proposal to the Election Commission and we are awaiting the approval of the ECI, if we receive today or tomorrow appointment will be made,” DCM Tynsong added.
The Meghalaya Government had also recommended the names of GP Singh, DGP Assam and Harmeet Singh, Spl DGP Assam for the office of the top cop of Meghalaya but they had not shown any interest, DCM Tynsong said.

DGP LR Bishnoi’s term ends on May 19.

Speculations are rife that the government may appoint Idashisha Nongrang as the next DGP. Nongrang is currently heading the Civil Defence & Home Guards.
