Meghalaya’s War on Drugs: Narcotics worth Rs 15 cr seized in 10 days in EJ Hills

In the latest seizure, the East Jaintia Hills police have seized heroin and marijuana worth Rs 3.6 crore
The War on Drugs is underway in full swing as the Meghalaya Police is leaving no stone unturned to wipe out the interstate drugs smuggling network. The success rate in the recovery of narcotics is so high that banned drugs worth a whopping Rs 15 crore has been seized in just 10 days in the East Jaintia Hills alone.
Intensifying the crackdown further, the police in East Jaintia Hills acting on specific intelligence inputs seized heroin and marijuana worth Rs 3.6 crore. Three drug peddlers who were handling the consignments and travelling by bus were also arrested.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also appreciated the role of Meghalaya Police led by DGP LR Bishnoi in curbing the prevalence of drugs. On May 2, high grade heroin worth Rs 1.1 crore was seized and 3 drug traffickers were arrested by the East Jaintia Hills police.
On May 1, heroin worth Rs 10 lakh was seized and a wanted drugs smuggler was arrested.
The same day, in yet another seizure drugs worth Rs 2.1 crore was seized and a drugs trafficker was arrested.
On April 27, in one of the biggest seizures, the East Jaintia Hills Police had seized heroin worth Rs 7.2 crore at Rattachera. One person was arrested.
