5,457 illegal immigrants detected in Kamjong District: Manipur CM N Biren Singh

Out of the total, the biometric data of 5173 such illegal immigrants have been collected so far. Deportation process is underway
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said that the government has detected at least 5457 illegal immigrants in the Kamjong District.
Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), CM N Biren Singh said, “𝟓𝟒𝟓𝟕 𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝟓𝟏𝟕𝟑 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝.”
“The Government has detected a total of 5457 illegal immigrants in Kamjong District, Manipur as on May 7th, 2024. Out of the total, the biometric data of 5173 such illegal immigrants have been collected so far. Deportation process is underway”, he added.
“We have been giving humanitarian aides to all the illegal immigrants who were detected so far. Despite being an alarming situation, we have been handling it with utmost sensitivity”, he further added.
Earlier this month, the first phase of deportation of illegal immigrants from Myanmar was completed on May 2 with 38 immigrants exiting India via Moreh.
Last week, CM said that the first phase of deportation of illegal immigrants from Myanmar has been completed in Manipur with 38 immigrants exiting the country via Moreh.
Altogether 77 illegal Myanmarese migrants, including 55 women and five children, deported to their country since March 8, Singh added.
Last year, on July 29, the Manipur government started the process for collecting biometric data of “illegal” immigrants in the state following instructions from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
