To combat dehydration and heat stress, seasonal fruits such as watermelons, cucumbers, and gourds are being offered to the animals.

Big blocks of ice, air coolers, cold water baths, electrolytes and ORS are some of the things that the Sepahijala Zoo is using to keep the animals cool amid a heatwave that is sweeping through the state of Tripura.

As temperatures are soaring to unprecedented levels, the zoo’s administration has installed air coolers in the enclosures to provide much-needed relief to the animals.

The zoo keepers are feeding electrolyte-rich fluids, fruits and vegetables kept in ice to the animals to give them respite from the sweltering heat.

To combat dehydration and heat stress, seasonal fruits such as watermelons, cucumbers, and gourds are being offered to the animals.

Additionally, ice cubes and cold-water splashes are being utilized directly to lower body temperatures.

Shades have been erected in all enclosures, with air coolers installed in select cages to maintain a comfortable environment for the animals.

The zoo veterinarians are conducting regular monitoring and administering ORS to prevent dehydration.
Furthermore, the zoo staff is ensuring fresh and cool water by frequently changing the water in the enclosures.

The animals are being fed easily digestible, high-moisture frozen treats containing seasonal fruits during cooler times of the day.

These proactive measures underscore the Sepahijala zoo’s commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of its captive animals amidst the challenging conditions posed by the heat wave.
